Children discover the joys of service from the first day at St James. They are encouraged to widen their awareness and see the needs of others. For example, at lunch, children and adults serve each other. Eating in such a way tends to change a meal from a personal activity to a communal one. Once the meal is completed, the children help with the clearing and cleaning of the lunch tables, once again broadening the awareness. Children are encouraged to work quietly, with care and attention.
